Heritage of La Palmeraie Polo Club:
A Legacy of Passion and Destiny
La Palmeraie Polo Club is not just a polo destination; it is the embodiment of one man’s lifelong passion for horses, polo, and Morocco. Founded by Patrick Guerrand-Hermès, the club’s story is woven into the rich fabric of Moroccan history and culture, showcasing the intersection of destiny, sport, and enduring friendship.
A Life Shaped by Polo and Morocco
Patrick’s journey into polo was serendipitous, guided by fate and the thunder of cavalry hooves. It all began with the 4th Regiment of Moroccan Spahis, a prestigious unit of the French cavalry, where a last-minute substitution in a match ignited a lifelong passion. From that moment, polo was no longer just a game—it was destiny.
His life soon became entwined with Morocco’s royal family. He hosted Prince Moulay Abdellah and introduced the future King Mohammed VI to the artistry of the Hermès workshops in Paris. These encounters were more than formal gestures; they were meaningful exchanges that deepened his bond with Morocco and its people. That connection grew even stronger when he took up residence at Aïn Kassimou, a historic Marrakech villa originally built by Leo Tolstoy. Under Patrick’s stewardship, it flourished—its halls alive with dignitaries, its gardens resonating with the conversations of diplomats and visionaries.
It was within these storied walls that Patrick founded La Palmeraie Polo. The estate featured not only a grass pitch but also elegant barns and stables, fostering an intimate yet vibrant polo scene. Matches were played with a soft ball, and the annual Christmas tournament became a highlight of the season. But while the setting was idyllic, Marrakech’s relentless summer heat posed a challenge. Ever forward-thinking, Patrick sought a more temperate climate where his horses could truly thrive.
His search led him north, to a land where the air was cooler, the grass lusher, and the terrain more forgiving. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Nakhla river his vision expanded, and La Palmeraie Polo Club was born—a polo destination that stands as a testament to his devotion to the sport. What began as a quiet sanctuary at Aïn Kassimou evolved into a grand stage where tradition, excellence, and an enduring passion for polo continue to shape a lasting legacy.
A Vision Brought to Life:
The Birth of La Palmeraie Polo Club in the North of Morocco
In 1999, Patrick Guerrand-Hermès set out on a mission: to breed exceptional horses in Morocco, a land rich in equestrian heritage. Drawn by its beauty and traditions, he chose the northern region, where the Oued en Nakhla winds through the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima landscape.
By 2008, he had begun acquiring land along the tranquil coastline between Asilah and Larache. Not long after, in 2010, he laid the foundations for La Palmeraie in the north of Morocco—an elite polo destination with world-class fields designed for the sport’s finest players.
In 2014, La Palmeraie Polo Club made its grand debut. Six teams took to the fields, marking the start of a new chapter in Moroccan polo. Today, it stands as a testament to one man’s vision and an enduring passion for the sport.

Where Tradition Meets Excellence
The carefully chosen location of La Palmeraie Polo Club—a serene, unspoiled beach along the Atlantic Ocean—became the canvas for Patrick Guerrand-Hermès’ vision. Today, the estate features three meticulously designed polo fields, paddocks, a clubhouse, and a daily training track, all set against the breathtaking landscapes of Northern Morocco.
Guerrand-Hermès dedicated his life to preserving and promoting polo’s rich traditions. His influence extended far beyond La Palmeraie, serving as President of the French Polo Federation from 2006 to 2009. His leadership shaped not only the club’s legacy but also the global development of the sport.
His commitment to polo and community is reflected in the way La Palmeraie fosters connection and inclusivity. From developing polo fields in Marrakech to establishing the world-class facility in Rehouna, Guerrand-Hermès’ enduring vision continues to bring people together through excellence in sport.
